25/06/2017 – Timi won two games against the much more accurate Mertens.

The match lasted 1 hour 8 minutes in Eastbourne.

 

Unfortunately,  only the beginning of the match was very close. Mertens started the 32-minute first set with a break, then Timi led 40-0 as a receiver. The Belgian player has even leveled, but her opponent finally took advantage of her fifth break point.

 

After that, there was a big difference between the two players’ performance. Mertens was much more accurate and always managed to solve the most important situations. Timi lost her second service game to 30, then after 3:1, Mertens broke her to 40. Finally, after 5:1, the Belgian youngster lost only one rally as a receiver.

 

The second game was not tighter … The Belgian player won her opponent’s serve at 2:1, to 40, using her fifth break chance. After that, Mertens hold her serve smoothly, and won Timi’ serve to 40.

 

In the final game, the 24-year old Hungarian player had two break point, but Mertens finished the match with great winners.
