Tímea Babos (Hungarian, 3)-Tatjana Maria (German) 6:1, 6:0

The match lasted 57 minutes in Budapest.

“I’m very happy! I think I played well today. Which is very important, this year I came in good shape for that event. I honestly admit, after today’s match, I do not need any particular regeneration. It is a great motivating force to play again on the Hungarian court, before the Hungarian audience. Give a lot of strength! I’m looking forward to playing again and playing for the Hungarian fans tomorrow. My opponent was barely missed to be seeded, I knew what to expect from her. My tactics worked very well, I could do it all the way. Even in the most difficult situations I could make a good decision” – said Timi.

Timi started well this season in singles and doubles so she started her first match in Budapest as a favourite. On the other side of the net stood a top60 player, who lost all her singles matches this year on the WTA Tour.

The local player started well and bravely at the BOK Hall, breaking the opponent’s defense from the baseline with hard and accurate shots. After 1:0, Timi broke Maria to 40, and again in the fourth game. So she led 4:0, and few minutes later, to 5:0

The third seeded player was very focused and she did not give chance for her opponent for s great comeback.

The second set was even more straightforward. To do this, it was necessary to turn the second game back from 0-40. The Hungarian player still enjoyed her fans with great winners, she was always better than Maria. In the third game, Timi broke to 40, then to 30 after 30.

At the match point, the local hero hits an ace.

Timi’s next opponent will be Mona Barthel.

The German player, (born: 11 July, 1990), is 74th in the WTA Rankings, with a career best position of 23rd (18 March, 2013). Barthel has won 4 WTA Tours and 5 ITFs in singles, last year, reaching fourth round at the Australian Open. This year, she lost in opening round at Auckland (New Zealand, 250 000 USD, hard court), at Hobart (Australia, 250 000 USD, hard court), at St. Petersburg (Russia, 799 000 USD, indoor carpet) and in Doha (Qatar, 2 897 250 USD, hard court) and was defeated in the second round at the Australian Open (Grand Slam tournament, Australia, 55 000 000 AUD, hard court).

The two players have met three times so far: Barthel won in 2012, in Montreal, 6:4, 5:7, 7: , and in 2015 in Charleston 6:3, 6:3. Three years ago in Marrakech, Timi triumphed 6:4, 6:0.
