At the opening round of the Miami Open the pair of Barty and Vandeweghe won 3:6, 6:2, 10-4 against the Hungarian-French double, and in Madrid they started very well. The Australian-American team pulled to a 5:2 lead, they saved two service games from 0-40.

 

Timi and Kristina Mladenovic, however, did not allow the opening act! After 5:3, the 3rd seeds broke the opponent to 40, then lost only two rallies in the 11th game. Then, the Hungarian-French pair finished the set to 30, after 6:5.

 

The 34-minute second set was tight, but Barty and Vandeweghe jumped to a 4:0 lead. Timi and Mladenovic came up to 4:2 and then had two break balls. But now the translation has failed. After 5:3, the Australian-American tteam closed the second act to 15.

 

In the decisive tie-break, Barty and Vandeweghe led 7-5, then 8-6, but this time the opponent’s turn came again. Timi and Kristina Mladenovic got to a 9-8 lead, had a match point. The opponent saved it, but then came the second SF-point at 10-9. The second match point was decisive for Timi and Kristina Mladenovic.

 

The Hungarian-French pair’s opponent will be the second seed Andrea Hlaváčková Sestini and Barbora Strýcová. Timi’s last year’s Czech partner closed the team work with World No1 Latisha Chan at the end of Fenruary, since then, she had five partners.

 

Hlaváčková Sestini (born: 10 August, 1986) is 6th in the world rankings, with a career best position of 3rd (22 October, 2012). Up to now, she has won 25 WTA and 19 ITFs in this genre. Sestini Hlaváčková had 6 Grand Slam finals: she remained unbeaten at the Roland Garros in 2011, and in the US Open in 2013 with Lucie Hradecká (Czech). Further GS finals: 2012 – Wimbledon (Co: Hradecká), US Open (Co: Hradecká), 2016 – US Open (Co: Hradecká), 2017 – Australian Open (Co: Shuai Peng). Sestini Hlaváčková and Hradecká were also in the final of the 2012 Olympics and WTA Finals. Last year, the Czech player won the WTA Finals in Singapore on the side of Timi, they remained unbeaten in four other events.

 

Strýcová (born: 28 March, 1986) is 12th in the World Rankings, with a career best position of 10th (20 March 2017). Up to now, she has won 21 WTA Tour and 10 ITF events in this genre.
