Farewell in singles, QF in doubles

23/04/2013 – Timi lost in two sets against the 5th seed and title holder Kiki Bertens int he first round of the Marrakech tournament (235 000 USD).

The match lasted 1 hour and 27 minutes, the Hungarian player had two sets points at 5:2…After that Timi and Mandy Minella won a dramatic battle against Marta Domachowska and Stéphanie Foretz-Gacon and advanced to the qurterfinal in doubles!

In the 57-minute first set Timi led 5:2 against Bertens, after she saved three break points in the first four service games. The Hungarian teen had two set points in the eight game, but the Dutch escaped and then won five games in a row…

 

In the beginning of the second set Timi came back after a break down, to equalize (1:1). But after that Bertens won four games in a row, and it was deciding. The young opponent won the next game, but she had no chance to broke again the title holder.
On Tuesday Timi also played in doubles with Mandy Minella. The Bogota winners had very tough match, in the first set they had twice a break advantage, but after 3:1 Domachowska and Foretz Gacon won five games in a row.

 

The Polish-French double began the second set with a break, but after 2:0 Timi and Minella came back and won the 33-minute act.

 

In the deciding tie-break the third seeds came back from 0-2 and 3-1, and led 5-4. But the rivals didn’t give up, at 8-7 they served for the match. But Timi and Mandy turned the match again and won the dramatic battle.

 

Timi and Mandy will meet the Czech Eva Hrdinova and Karolina Pliskova in the quarter-final.
