Eastbourne: experienced rival in doubles

16/06/2013 – Timi and Mandy Minella will meet the duo of Monica Niculescu and Klara Zakopalova.

The Romanian player is ranked 58, and her Czech partner is 108th. Timi’s position is 56, while Mandy Minella is ranked 61st.


The Hungarian and the Luxembourgish player this year won in Bogota and Marrakech, while they reached the final in Hobart. Timi and Mandy Minella recently co-starred in Roland Garros, suffered a first round defeat after a major battle against a Chinese duo.


The 25-year-old Niculescu three years ago was 24th in doubles, it was her career best so far. During her career, she won two WTA doubles competitions: in 2009 in Budapest with the Russian Alisa Kleybanova, in 2012 in Hobart she also celebrated with the Romanian Irina-Camelia Begu. Last October she was a finalist with Begu in Luxembourg.


This season Niculescu was a quarter finalist in Shenzhen (with Maria Elena Camerin) and in Rome (with Dominika Cibulkova), reached the 3rd round at the Australian Open (Co: Begu) and Roland Garros (Co: Vania King).


The 31-year-old Zakopalova was 51st in 10th of Oktober in 2011, it was her career best in doubles. She was finalist in five WTA-tournaments, won in 2011 in s’Hertogenbosch with the Czech Barbora Zahlavova-Strycova. This year she lost in the first round at the Australian Open (Co: Jarmila Gajdosva) and Roland Garros (Co: Renata Voracova).
