Eastbourne: a close match and victory in doubles

29/06/2017 – The Hungarian-Czech double played well in the decisive tie-break.

The match lasted 1 hour and 16 minutes in Eastbourne.


The match was postponed with 48 hours because of the bad weather, of the constant rain.


Timi and Andrea Hlaváčková performed very well in the 29 minute first set, in which the middle section was the decisive. The Hungarian-Czech double saved two break points in the fourth game and another one in the sixth. In the meantime, they managed to won the opponent’s serve to 40. Timi and her partner retained their advantage by 5:3, and then won the Taiwanese-Rumanian pair’s serve to 40, again.


In the second, 37-minute second set Timi and Hlaváčková could not break the opponent, so losing the opening own service game was crucial. In the ninth game, the Hungarian-Czech double saved two set points behind the serve, but they only delayed the finish of the set.


In the decisive tie-break Timi and Hlaváčková again played well, they served and received well. They all the way. The Hungarian-Czech pair won three receiver’s point, so it was enough for the victory.


In the quarter-final, the 3rd seed pair will meet Elena Ostapenko and Katarina Srebotnik.
