Dubai: a great triumph in the QF

11/03/2021 – Timi and Veronika Kudermetova came back from a break down in each set against the 2 time Grand Slam champs.

Tímea Babos, Veronika Kudermetova (Hungarian, Russian, 5)-Barbora Krejčiková, Kateřina Siniaková (Czech, 2) 6:3, 7:5

The match lasted 1 hour and 31 minutes

The Hungarian-Russian pair faced the most difficult task at their opening tournament, because the Czech are one of the top teams of the WTA Tour. In 2018 Barbora Krejčiková and Kateřina Siniaková triumphed at the Roland Garros and Wimbledon, then they were World No1 at the WTA Rankings. Few weeks ago they played in the final of the Australian Open.

Timi and Veronika Kudermetova fought hard from the start of the match, even not giving up when they got into a difficult situation. The 2nd seeds saved their serve from 30-40 in the fourt game, and then broke to 40. That’s when the turn came!

Timi and her partner also took his opponent’s serve to 40 and then with that momentum, after 4:3 they lost just one rally as a receiver! The last game of the set was brought to 30 by the Hungarian and Russian player after 40-0.

The first part of the second set was very tight, with the Czech pair winning their serve first from 15-40 and then Timi’s reversing from 0-40. Unfortunately, then Barbora Krejčiková and Kateřina Siniaková pulled to 4:1, the fifth game was brought from 30-40 …

Luckily Timi and Veronika didn’t give up: after 2:4 they broke to 0 and then equalized to 4:4 and 5:5. Then Siniaková became insecure, so she lost her service game to 15. After that, Kudermetova won her own game to 15.

In the semifinal the Hungarian-Russian pair will meet a Chinese opponent, Yifan Xu (WTA Doubles: 9) and Zhaoxuan Yang (WTA Doubles: 57).
