Doha: defeat in the semifinal of the Doubles

27/02/2020 – The 6th seeded Dabrowski and Ostapenko won in three sets.

The match lasted 1 hour and 21 minutes in Doha.


The Canadian-Latvian pair began very well the 39-minute first set: winning the opponent’s serve first to 30, then to 40 (from 40-30) while bringing their own serve to 15. In the fourth game, the Hungarian-French couple received two break points, but could not use either.


Unfortunately, Timi and Kristina Mladenovic also lost the next own game, this time from 40-15 … Then the big change came: the 2nd seeds won the opponent’s serve to 40, after 15-40. The Hungarian-French duo then brought their serve smoothly and pulled to 40-0 as a receiver. Dabrowski and Ostapenko then won three rallies, but eventually failed to defend the game, again from a set ball.


Timi and Kristina Mladenovic also defended their serve in the next service game but lost the next game by a 30-0 advantage. Thus the opening act was completed.


The opening game of the 29-minute second set was won by Timi and Kiki, to 40. Then, in the next game, the Hungarian-French duo broke from 40-15. In the sequel, both pair took great care of the serves, and then Timi and Kiki won the sixth game as a receiver, again from 40-15.


In the next game, the Hungarian-French pair led 40-15, using the second set ball.


Unfortunately, the decisive tie-break was only closely formed at the beginning. Dabrowski and Ostapenko led twice with a receiving, after 4-4 they jumped to a 9-5 lead. Timi and Kiki came back to 9-7, but the third match point was has been used by the opponent.
