The match lasted 2 hours 33 minutes.
The players needed a lot of patience on the second day of the qualifying. The constant rain delayed the start of the program with several hours. Few times happened that the players finished the warm-up, when the rain came back…
Timi and Brady scheduled to start at 12:30 local time, but they entered the court half past 9 in the evening.
The Hungarian player began very well, she led 4:1 in the 61-minute opening set. But suddenly, Brady came back strongly. The US-player won four games in a row, and she served for the first set. But Timi “answered” immediately, she equalized, and few minutes later came the tie-break.
Both player served very well, until 5-4. The Timi won two receiver’s point and she strongly finished the opening act.
The 53-minute second set also has an interesting script. The Hungarian player led 3:1, but she couldn’t hold that break. Brady took control, and after 6:5, she broke to 15. So the local player finished that interesting act…
The final set developed very smoothly, until 5:1. Timi served and received very well, she broke her opponent twice. At 5:2, the 3rd seed had two match points, but Brady broke her…In the next game, Timi led 40-0 as a receiver, but she couldn’t finished the match. Brady equalized, and had a chance for 5:4. But the Hungarian player fought hardly and bravely, and she finished the match with the sixth match point.
The 23-year old Hungarian player’s opponent in the main draw will be Louisa Chirico. The 20-year old American player is ranked 82nd, her career best position was 69 (18 July 2016). So far, she has won 3 ITF events in singles. She celebrated her best result in 2016 at the Spanish capital, she reached the semifinal from the qualies at the 4 942 700 USD Mutua Madrid Open.
On Monday, it turned out that Timi and Yaroslava Shvedova will meet Anabel Medina Garrigues and Arantxa Parra Santonja int he second round of the doubles. The Hungarian-Kazakh pair was seeded 3rd, they had a Bye int he opening round.
Medina Garrigues and Parra Santonja is equally ranked 34th in doubles.
Medina Garrigues’s (33-year old) career best position was 3 (10 November 2008), she has won 28 WTA and 3 ITF competition. In 2008 and 2009, she was a champion of women’s doubles at the Roland Garros.
Parra Santonja’s (33) career best position was 22 (2 April 2012), she has won 9 WTA and 11 ITF tournaments in doubles.
This year the Spanish double remained unbeaten in Monterrey and Strasbourg at the 250 000 USD WTA event.
Few weeks ago, at Eastbourne Timi and Slava Shvedova won 6:1, 6:2 against the Spaniards.
