30/09/2016 – The Hungarian-Kazakh duo saved five match balls in the second set, but in the end it was not enough for the success.


Sania Mirza, Barbora Strycova (Indian, Czech, 3)-Timea Babos, Yaroslava Shvedova (Hungarian, Kazakh, 6), 6:3, 7:6 (7-5)


The match lasted one hour and 20 minutes.


For a long time it seemed, that the third seed pair, which won two tournaments in the last period, will confidently advance to the semifinal. Mirza and Strycova served and received very well.


In the 27-minute first set the Indian-Czech pair broke the opponent twice, at 1:0 and 3:1, and only once lost their serve. After the second break, Mirza and Strycova easily hold the lead, they won the ninth game, after 5:3 to 15.


At the beginning of the second set, both pair broke the opponent. After 3:3, Mirza and Strycova won the opponent’s serve and then led 5:3, 40-0. They had four match balls as a receiver…But Timi and Shvedova rescued, then they broke the opponent from the fifth match ball.


At 6:5, they Hungarian-Kazakh pair had three set points, but without success. This was crucial. In the tie-break, Timi and Shvedova came back from 2-5 to 5-5, but they lost the next two rally.
