Defeat in singles at the Family Circle Cup

06/04/2015 – The 15th seed Mona Barthel won in two sets against Tímea Babos in the opening round.

The match lasted 1 hour 11 minutes.

“It’s not easy to switch to the clay. Many times I made a mistake, because I played, like on the hard court. I felt that I’m not quite ready for the clay court. I need more time to switch”– Timi said after the match.

 

Both set was decided by one break, in favor of the more experienced Barthel. But it was a huge difference between the two “act”.

 

In the 33-minute first set, the 15th seed German player broke her opponent after 2:1, she lived with the third chance after 0-40. Barthel won that game with a great forehand.

 

Then, the German player has won confidently her service games. At 5:3 she lost only one rally, so she finished this set also.

 

At the beginning of the second set the match changed a lot. Timi broke her rival at 1:0 to 30, then she had a chance for a 3:0 lead. But she couldn’t hold her service game after 40-15 (2:2). Barthel again won her break point with a good forehand.

 

Unfortunately, in the seventh game the German player broke the opponent after 30-30. In the next game Timi played well, but she was unlucky after 15-30. Instead of break points, she lost that game and in the last minutes she made easy mistakes. Barthel waited for the wrong decisions, and she was right…
