03/04/2014 – After a huge battle Timi lost a three sets match against Kimiko Date-Krumm in the second round of the 500,000 USD WTA tournament.

The meeting lasted two hours and 21 minutes.

The 43- year-old Japanese legend in the first round caused a huge surprise, she won 7:5, 6:2 against the frest Indian Wells Champion Flavia Pennetta. The Hungarian player defeated 6:1, 6:2 the local hero, Ximena Hermoso.


Timi and Kimiko Date- Krumm had met twice in singles. In the 2012 season in the final in Quangzhou the Japanese legend celebrated a 6:3, 6:3 triump. Few weeks later in Copengahen Timi won 1:6, 7:6, 7:5.


In the 41-minute first set, Date- Krumm began with a break, she won her rival’s service game to 40. Then the Japanese legend led 2:0. Timi won back the lost service game, she equalized to 3:3. But after that the Hungarian youngster lost again her serve, then she couldn’t lived with two break chances.


At 5:4 the Japanese player won the tenth game to 15, she led 1 set to 0.


In the 56-minute second set the two player went with serves to 3:3, then Date-Krumm broke her opponent to 30. But it did not decide the match. Because Timi broke back in the next game!


Then they won the next two service games, so came the tie-break. Timi led 3-1, but Date-Krumm came back, and had a 4-3 lead. But in the next four rallies the young Hungarian was the better on the court, so came the final set.


The third set was decided in the ninth game. Date-Krumm broke Timi to 30, then she hold her next service game. So, the Japanese legend reached the quarterfinal in Monterrey.
