Defeat at the Miami Open semifinal

04/04/2015 – The first seed Martina Hingis-Sania Mirza pair won in two sets against Timi and Kristina Mladenovic in the semifinal of the 5 381 235 USD Miami Open.

The match lasted 60 minutes.

“It was a nice week with Kiki, I’m happy with it! We can learn much from today’s semifinal. But it was a great experience to play in such a big stadium, at evening, at the eyes of many spectators”– Timi said.

 

Martina Hingis and Sania Mirza played first time together at Indian Wells and they celebrated a huge success: they won the BNP Paribas Open! In 2015 Timi and Mladenovic played in two semifinal before Miami: they triumphed at the 2 513 000 USD Dubai event.

 

The Hungarian-French pair began well at Miami, they immediately broke the rival to 40, then they hold their service game after 0-40. But Hingis and Mirza broke back at 2:1, then they won the opponent’s service game at the next two occasion. At 4:2 the first seed pair saved two break points…

 

Hingis and Mirza saved two more break point at the beginning of the second set. Then they broke the rival at 3:2, with the third chance. Fortunately Timi and Mladenovic came back to 4:4, with a break in the seventh game.

 

Unfortunately, after 4:4 Hingis and Mirza won eight rally in a row, so they advanced to the final of the Miami Open.

 

Next week Timi will play at the 731 000 USD tournament in Charleston. She will play in doubles with Anna-Lena Groenefeld, because Kristina Mladenovic will enter the event in Katowice.

 

The 29-year old Groenefeld is ranked 37th, her career best position was 7 (6 March 2006). So far she has won 14 WTA and 6 ITF event in this genre. In Women’s Doubles she was a semifinalist at the Australian Open (2006, 2015), Wimbledon (2005, 2013) and US Open (2010). She has won two titles an Mixed Doubles: at Roland Garros (2014) and Wimbledon (2009).
