Budapest: celebration for the Honorary Citizens

19/06/2018 – The prizes were passed by Mayor István Tarlós.

 

On Tuesday, the prizes were handed by Major István Tarlós for the new Honorary Citizens of Budapest.

 

Eight people were recognized, who played a decisive role in the life of the capital and gained glory for Hungary and Budapest with outstanding performance.

 

The prize was given to Tímea Babos (World Champion and Grand Slam Winner tennis player), Eszter Horgas (flute artist), Károly Horváth, Charlie (Liszt Ferenc Prize laureate musician), László Lovász (Széchenyi Grand Prize Mathematician), President of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences (MTA) Kálmán Mészöly (former Coach of the National Football Team) and Tamás Vásáry (Kossuth Prize-winning pianist, conductor of the Hungarian Academy of Music, honorary music director).

 

Posthumous prize winner of the award was Barna Burger (photo reporter) and István Hazay (Kossuth Prize-winning geodesist, member of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences). (MTI/Hungarian National Press Agency))
