“I’m obviously happy with the victory! There is always a little pressure if somebody on her birthday 🙂 I’ve always defeated Lepchenko, but we always had a very tight match. Today’s quarter-final was also close: but I’m happy with this. I feel like I’m getting better and accepting heavier situations in my head. This is a good little birthday gift! Obviously look forward to the semifinal! It is also positive that I have won more matches in the past few weeks than before” – Timi said.
Timi won three times against Lepchenko and this time she was better on clay. The Hungarian player celebrating her 26th birthday fought hard and struggled for success, and did not break when she lost her lead.
In the 49-minute first set, Timi led 3:0 after a huge battle. Int he second game, she used the fifth chance and won Lepchenko’s serve, then saved her own game after 15-40.
The experienced American player in the fifth game broke to 30, then won only one single rally in her own game. Unfortunately, Timi lost the seventh game from 40-0.
After 4:4 the Hungarian player will prevailed again! Timi brought her serve to 30, then broke the opponent to 30, closing the opening act.
At the very beginning of the second set, Lepchenko won the opponent’s game to 0, then lost her own serve to 40.
Timi always led till 4:3, putting pressure on her opponent. In the eighth game, the Hungarian player pulled out as a receiver to 40 and lived with the third break chance. Then Timi outsourced the quarter-final to 15!
Timi’s opponent will be Stefanie Voegele int he semifinal.
The Swiss player is 113rd in the World Rankings.
Voegele (born: 10 March, 1990) has a career best position of 42nd (11 November, 2013). The Swiss player has won 8 ITF tournaments so far.
The two players have met four times so far: in 2013 Voegele won 6:4, 7:5 in Shenzhen (China), then in 2015 in Taipei 6:4, 7:5. Timi triumphed in 2017 in Tashkent 6:3, 6:4. A few weeks ago, in the Miami Open qualifier, the Hungarian player won against the Swiss opponent, 3:6, 7:5, 6:4.
