HUNGARIAN LADIES OPEN (250 000 USD, INDOOR CARPET), ROUND 2
Mona Barthel (German)-Tímea Babos (Hungarian, 3) 6:4, 4:6, 6:3

The match lasted for 1 hour 53 minutes.

“Mona played very well. She was excellent, I did not really know how to “read” her serves. I started the match slower, but after that I had chances. I’ve been fighting and trying all the time, I’m really sorry about the seventh game in the deciding set. If we look at the game overall, Mona played better. There were parts of the match when it was all on a fair ground and it did so successfully. I’ve looked at many of her matches and stats, she had much more mistakes. Especially from the sideways point of view, but it has worked relatively well today. Her serves were excellent. She has constantly varied her deliveries, effectively. Nevertheless, I had the chance in my hands, but for a while it seemed that she will win in two sets. For me it is positive that I could come back to the match, but it must be recognized that Moma played well. We played long time ago against each other, I did not know what to expect. That’s why I started more nervous than necessary. I had a long time ago an opponent who served so well. This put a lot of pressure on my games” – said Timi.

Mona Barthel started the match great, in the 35-minute opening set she led to 4:1, serving a total of 5 aces in three own games. The defending champion did not find the really effective tactics at this time, but the picture of the set had changed.

After 3:5 Timi won her opponent’s serve in a great battle, and it seemed, she came back. Unfortunately, that was not the case … Barthel played a brave receiving game, she totally surprised Timi. The German player broke easily, closing the opening act.

The 41-minute second set was better. Timi saved her service game from a break point at 1:2, then lost no rally as a receiver. Barthel was risking a lot, but she was worse than the first set. The Hungarian player was more aggressive, so after 5:3 she got into set balls. Barthel rescued the game,  but did not do with the second act.

The title holder easily finished the set after 5:4.

In the decisive act Barthel was in the lead. Timi was always equalized till 3: 3 and then got two break points with great solutions. Unfortunately, the German player reversed, and in the eighth game she bravely attacked her his opponent. Barthel broke, then finished the match with winners. Her last shot was an ace.
