The match lasted 1 hour and 14 minutes.
In the 29-minute first set, both pair were confidently serving up to 3:2. Unfortunately, in the sixth game, Aoyama and Shibahara broke to 40 from 40-30. After that, the Hungarian-French double could have responded immediately, but did not take advantage of their two break points.
The Japanese duo brought the ninth game 0, thus closing the opening act.
In the first half of the second set, Timi and Kristina Mladenovic were the better ones on the court, they had a big chance to decide the fate of the act. In the opening game, they hold their serve from 15-40, and after 1:0, the opponent must save two breakballs.
The Hungarian-French double won the fourth game to 30, but lost their serve to 40. Timi and Mladenovic lost the eighth game from three breakballs and couldn’t bring their serve.
There was still a chance in the final game, but Aoyama and Shibahara won their serve again from 15-40, advancing to the semifinal.
