12/01/2021 – Timi’s opponent for the main draw will be the World No135 Anna-Karolína Schmiedlová.
|AUSTRALIAN OPEN 2021 (GRAND SLAM TOURNAMENT, HARD COURT), WOMEN’S SINGLES, QUALIFYING, ROUND 2|
|Tímea Babos (Hungarian, 7)-Tessah Andrianjafitrimo (French) 6:3, 2:6, 6:2|
The match lasted 2 hour and 3 minutes in Dubai.
In the 41-minute first the Hungarian player received very well, winning her opponent’s serve four times (to 40, 30, 15, then to 30 again). Thus, the fact that Andrianjafitrimo also broke twice (to 40 and 15) was no problem either.
Unfortunately, the 35-minute second act brought a change. Timi led 2: 1, but didn’t win a game after that. Andrianjafitrimo took the 7th seeds serve to 40 and then to 30.
Fortunately, the Hungarian player was better again in the final set! Although Timi lost her serve after 2:0, she reacted immediately. She broke to 15 and then brought her own games in a big fight. Then after 5:2 she broke to 40, taking advantage of her second match ball. That’s how she made it to the final round of the qualifier.
Timi’s opponent will be Anna-Karolína Schmiedlová to get to the main draw. The Slovak player (born: 13 September 1994) is 135th in the World Rankings, has a career best position of 26th (12 October, 2015). So far, she has won 3 WTA Tour and 12 ITF tournaments in Singles.
