AO 2020: victory in Round 3

27/01/2020 – Timi and Kristina Mladenovic won in two sets, again.

Tímea Babos, Kristina Mladenovic (Hungarian, French, 2)-Viktória Kužmová, Aliaksandra Sasnovich (Slovak, Belarus) 7:6 (7-4), 6:3

The match lasted 1 hour and 39 minutes in Melbourne.

The 59-minute first set brought a big and extremely close battle in which both doubles kept their serving games. The key was that after 2:3 Timi (and Kristina Mladenovic) saved a total of five break points.

The tie-break started with two minibreaks (1 on each side), and after 4-3, the 2nd seeds won two points as a receiver. Timi and Kiki eventually used the second set ball.

In the second set, the Hungarian-French couple was already very dangerous as a receiver: after 1:0, they broke to 15 and then brought their serve from 15-40. In the fourth game, the Slovakian-Belarusian pair saved a breakpoint, and in the seventh game they won the opponent’s serve to 0 (4:3).

Fortunately, this was the time for another turn! Timi and Kristina Mladenovic broke Kuzmová and Sasnovich, after 40-15. The Hungarian-French double then won the last game to 15.

Till the 2018 Australian Open, Timi and Kiki reach the quarter-final, at least, for the ninth time in a row. Now in the Last 8, Cori Gauff and Caty McNally will be the opponent.
