On Thursday, the main draw was made for the first Grand Slam tournament of the 2018 season: Timi’s opponent will be the 10th seed CoCo Vandeweghe at the Australian Open.
The 24-year old Hungarian player is 49th in the world rankings. Timi was first time on the main draw in Melbourne in 2013, two years ago she reached the 2nd round.
Vandeweghe (born: 6 December, 1991) is 10th in the world rankings, which is her best position so far. The American player has won 2 WTAs (2014 and 2016: s’Hertogenbosch) and 2 ITFs in singles.
Vandeweghe is last season’s semifinalist at the Australian Open. She won against Roberta Vinci (Italian 6:1, 7:6), Pauline Parmentier (French 6:4, 7:6), Eugenie Bouchard (Canadian 6:4, 3:6, 7:5) Angelique Kerber (German, 6:2, 6:3) and Garbine Muguruza (Spanish, 6:4, 6:0). In the SF she was beaten by Venus Williams (American, 6:7, 6:2, 6:3).
The Hungarian and American player have once met: in 2016, Vandeweghe won at Wimbledon, 6:2, 6:3.
