19/01/2017 – After the close first set, Timi and Pavlyuchenkova played better and better.

The match lasted 1 hour and 20 minutes at Melbourne.
Timi and Pavlyuchenkova started well in the 45-minute first set against Sorana Cirstea and Carina Witthöft, but after a quick break they “faced” unexpected ups and downs. After 2:1, 40-30 the Hungarian-Russian lost their service game, then couldn’t broke the opponent from 15-40…
Fortunately, Timi and Pavlyuchenkova woke up in time. After 3:3 they won the opponent’s serve to 40, lived with the second chance. Then the Hungarian-Russian duo hold their serve, and after 5:4, they won the next game to 15.
The second set has developed more smoothly, without any major twists. Timi and Pavlyuchenkova broke Cirstea and Witthoeft to 15 in the opening game, then hold their own service game from 15-40. After 3:1, they broke the opponent again, to 15, and hold their own game to 40.
But Cirstea and Witthoeft didn’t gave up at 4:6, 1:5. They saved two match points, but this was only a delaying of the end. In the next game, Timi and her partner lost only one rally, so they easily advanced to the next round.
The Hungarian-Russian double’s next opponent will be Tatjana Maria and Pauline Parmentier.
The 29-year old German player in ranked 68th in doubles, her career best position was 54 (June 6 2016). So far, she has won 2 WTA and 15 ITF tournament in this genre. Last year, she remained unbeaten in Bogota (Colombia, 250 000 USD, clay, Co: Lara Arruabarrena).
The 30-year old French player is currently ranked 355th, had a career best position of 89 (30 April 2012). So far, she has won 3 ITF doubles title.
