On Sunday, the draw was made for the Women’s Doubles at the Australian Open: Timi and Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova will meet the 15th seed pair of Serena and Venus Williams.
On Friday, the Hungarian-Russian team won the 776 000 USD Apia International in Sydney. Before that tournament Timi was ranked 15th, while Pavlyuchenkova was 110th.
Serena and Venus Williams are equally ranked 30th place in the world ranking in doubles. The US-legends last time played together at the Rio Olympics, lost in the first round 6:3, 6:4 against Lucie Safarova and Barbora Strycova (Czech Republic).
Serena Williams has won 23, while while Venus Williams has won 22 WTA doubles titles. The former World No1 pair triumphed at all 4 Grand Slam events: at the Australian Open in 2001, 2003, 2009 and 2010, at Roland Garros in 1999 and 2010, at Wimbledon in 2000, 2002, 2008, 2009, 2012 and 2016, and at the US Open in 1999 and 2009. Serena and Venus Williams in 2000, 2008 and 2012, won the women’s doubles at the Olympics.
Timi has already met twice with the Williams Sisters: at the opening round of the 2014 US Open she lost with Kristina Mladenovic, 7:6, 6:7, 6:1. At last season’s Wimbledon final she was defeated with Yaroslava Shvedova, 6:3, 6:4.
