23/01/2017 – The three-times Grand Slam winner pair of Mattek-Sands and Safarova Mattek-Sands lost a total of seven games.

The match lasted one hour and 15 minutes at Melbourne.
“Unfortunately, this match was finished just like that. The opponent played very, very well! Maybe in the first set, especially at the beginning of the match, we could have a chance. Perhaps Nastia was moved a little tired, but We both really wanted to win, We fought for another good result. But We had a very good opponent. This competition has now finished for Me” – said Timi.
At the beginning of the 35-minute first set, both pair lost their serve. Then Timi and Pavlyuchenkova was twice close to another break. At 2:2, and at 3:3 the Hungarian-Russian duo reached to 40-40, but they couldn’t lived with that chances.
Unfortunately, at 4:3 the three time Grand Slam Champions had two break points after 15-40. Mattek-Sands and Safarova won the second rally, then they hold their service game from 15-30, at 5:3
The first part of the second set was a nightmare for Timi and her partner…The opponent broke them twice, they jumped to a 5:1 lead.
But the Hungarian-Russian pair did not give up. They won their service game to 15, then saved a match point and broke the US-Czech pair. Then they came back to 5:4.
But the next game was one-sided, Mattek-Sands and Safarova won it to 0, so the match was finished.
