18/01/2015 – Timi and Kristina Mladenovic will meet in the first round the pair of Bojana Jovanovski and Katarzyna Piter.
The last year’s Wimbledon finalist Hungarian-French duo is seeded 10th in the first Grand Slam tournament of the season.
Timi is ranked 21st, while Mladenovic is ranked 18th in the WTA. The Hungarian-French duo was a finalist last year in Paris, Wimbledon, Cincinnati and in Limoges, this week they reached the last four in Sydney.
The 21-year-old Hungarian player won two matches last year with Petra Martic at the Australian Open. Mladenovic was in the second round with Flavia Pennetta.
The 23-year-old Jovanovski is ranked 208th in doubles. Her career best position is 203 (3 November 2014). The Serbian player has not won a competition in this genre. Last year she was beaten in the first round at the Australian Open (Co: Donna Vekic). In the 2014 season she was a quarterfinalist in Istanbul (Turkey, 250,000 USD, hard court, Co: Francesca Schiavone) and Tashkent (Uzbekistan, 250,000 USD, hard court, Co: Danka Kovinic).
The 23-year old Piter is ranked 75th in the world rankings, her career-best position is 67 (28 April 2014). Throughout her career, she has won one WTA and 14 ITF tournament in this genre. It is interesting that in 2013, Piter remained unbeaten with Mladenovic in Palermo.
The Polish player a year ago reached the second round in Melbourne with Alicja Rosolska. Last year Piter was finalist in Marrakech (Morocco, 250,000 USD, clay, Co: Maryna Zanevska) and Poitiers (France, 100,000 USD, carpet, Co: Zanevska), while she reached the last four in Bucharest (Romania, 250,000 USD, clay, Co: Olga Savchuk).
