“We faced a very dominating opponent today. I think that I might relate to compete well against the big serves and shots, but unfortunately Petra did not play very well today. After all that’s realistic to say that there was no chance. However, I’m glad I did not lost my serve and I returned well. Overall, I am satisfied with my performance today. It would be nice if in singles I could play also with a smile. Goran Ivanisevic watched the game, we were on good terms during the week. He tried to share with me his experiences. He told me how good my serve is, but it could be more efficient and higher percentage. It’s terribly nice to hear from him those things. Melbourne , or do I say that in Australia, I hard a lot of positive experience and specific experience! With Nikola we are ready for the challenges because we feel that there is little need for individual success as well! Today I travel home, next time I play in Paris, then the Fed Cup. Thanks for cheering during the entire tour! Believe me, that means a lot to me!” – Timi said.
At the beginning of the 27-minute first set Timi and Martic smoothly won the first service game and lost the next game after 40-40. Unfortunately, the Australian double broke Martic to 40, they led 2:1. The Hungarian-Croatian duo came back to 3:2, but they didn’t play well as a receiver as against the last year’s finalists in the second round.
However Gajdosova and Tomljanovic played very well, at 4:2 they broke Martic to 30. Then they won the next service game to 0.
The second set was much more tight. Timi and her Croatian partner played much better, they kept with the rival till 5:5. But they couldn’t reached for a break point.
Unfortunately, in the eleventh game Martic lost her serve to 30, and in the next game Gajdosova and Tomljanovic didn’t give a chance for a rebreak…They won the last game to 30, they reached the quarter-final.
