|Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova, Lucie Safarova (Russian, Czech)-Timea Babos, Laura Robson (Hungarian, British), 6:2, 6:4|
Timi (ranked 78th in doubles) last week was a finalist with Mandy Minella in the Hobart tournament. This time she played with the mixed doubles Olympic silver medalist Robson (282nd) appeared on her side.
In the last season the British teen played only in the big tournament in doubles. So the Russian-Czech dup was the clear favourite: Pavlyuchenkova ranked 54th, while Safarova ranked 57th in doubles ranking.
In the 27-minute first act the favourites played, more accurately. The Russian-Czech duo broke three times, so they “permit” to lose once the service game.
Timi and Laura stepped up in the second set. They had the chance to equalize, to fray out a decisive act. But at 3:3 they missed two break points, and in the next game the much more experienced opponent broke again (5:3). After that, there was no chance of a turnaround.
