|Tímea Babos (Hungarian, 6) Aravane Rezai (France), 6:2, 6:4|
Timi won a huge battle in the first round against Olga Savchuk, after the Ukrainian was in a break advantage in the beginning of the third set. Two and hald years ago Rezai was the world No 15, she played also three sets on Saturday. But on Sunday the match was much shorter, fortunately…
The 19-year-old Hungarian player was much better then the French! In the first set Timi got away after 2:2, she broke Rezai at 3:2 and then at 5:2. The sixth seed saved the break points, hit six aces.
In the second set Timi broke her rival at 2:1 from 0-30 and had another chance at 4:1. But Rezai then unexpectedly arised. The 26 years old Frebch saved a match point at 5:2, then broke the rival at 5:3! However Timi regained the control and closed the match after 5:4.
On Monday the Hungarian teen will meet Alexandra Cadantu. Timi lost against the Romanian on clay in 2011 (2:6, 6:3, 6:2) in the Swedish town Kristinehamn. Last year in Monterrey’s final Timi was the better, 6:4, 6:4.
Cadantu is currently ranked 95th, last week she won three matches in the qualifying tournament in Katowice and later went to the semifinal. She won against Sabine Lisicki, Irina-Camelia Begu and Shahar Peer, and lost against Petra Kvitova.
On Sunday afternoon the doubles draw is made by the organizers. Timi and Mandy Minella will meet the Polish Marta Domachowska and French Stéphanie Foretz-Gacon.
