11/06/2016 – Last year Madison Keys was a quarter-finalist at Wimbledon.

 

On Saturday, the main draw was made in singles for the 846 000 USD WTA event, Aegon Classic: Timi’s opponent will be the 7th seed Madison Keys.

 

The 21-year old American player is ranked 16th, this is her career best. So far, she has won 1 WTA and 3 ITF tournament in singles. Last year she was a semifinalist at the Australian Open, and reached the last eight at Wimbledon.

 

This year Keys celebrated her best result in Rome (2 599 610 USD), she played in the final. She lost against Serena Williams (7:6, 6:3). This spring Keys was a quarter-finalist at the Miami Open (6 844 139 USD, hard court).

 

Timi has met three times with the US players: in 2012 in Cincinnati Keys won 6:3, 6:0, while in 2014 in Birmingham Timi won 6:2, 6:1. This year, Keys won in the third round in Rome (7:6, 6:3).

 

Last year Timi reached the main draw from the qualies at Birmingham: in the first round she won against Roberta Vinci (6:2, 6:, 7:6), then defeated by Carla Suarez-Navarro (6:2, 3:6, 6:4).

 

Next week Timi will also play in doubles – as a preparation for Wimbledon – at Birmingham. Her constant partner, Yaroslava Shvedova chose the WTA event in Mallorca, so this time Oksana Kalashnikova is the partner. It is interesting that Shvedova and Kalashnikova started togerther this week and they remained unbeaten in s’Hertogenbosch (Netherlands).

 

The 25-year old Kalashnikova is ranked 51st, her career best position was 44 (21 March 2016). So far, she has won 2 WTA and 25 ITF tournament in this genre.

 

The Hungarian-Georgian pair’s opponent in the first round in Birmingham will be the wild cardist duo of Johanna Konta and Elina Svitolina. The two players in singles belongs to the top20, but they rarely plays in doubles. Konta is ranked 146th (career best: 95/1 February 2016), has won four ITF competition. Svitolina is ranked 208th (career best: 108/4 May 2015), she has won 2 WTA and 2 ITF tornaments.
