11/01/2017 – The Hungarian-Russian paid won a great battle against the second seed team in Sydney.

Timi has great memories from the Apia International: in 2014 she was the Champion with Lucie Safarova, then in 2015 she reached the semifinal with Kristina Mladenovic.
This year, the Hungarian player’s partner will be Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova, with whom she had the debut last year in Moscow. They began the Sydney event with a great victory, against the doubles specialist Raquel Atawo and Xu Yifan.
At the beginning of the 50-minute first set Timi and Pavlyuchenkova couldn’t broke the opponent from three chances, then they lost their service game after 40-15…But they answered immediately, with a break to 0. And at 5:4, the Hungarian-Russian duo had a set point as a receiver, at 40-40.
But the fate of the first act was decided by the tie-break. Timi and her partner led with a break to 2-1, but they lost three rallies in a row. They came back to 4-4, and saved a set point at 5-6. The Hungarian and the Russian player broke the opponent at 7-7, and finished the act with a service point.
The second set was even more interesting. Timi and Pavlyuchenkova led with an early break to 1:0, but minutes later it was 1:3…But the Hungarian-Russian pair came back to 4:3, then they lost their service game again.
But after 4.4, Timi & Pavs broke Hingis and Vandeweghe, then closed the match behind the serves, from 30-40!
In the Friday semifinal the Hungarian-Russian pair will meet Andreja Klepac and Maria-José Martínez-Sánchez.
The 30-year old Slovenian player is ranked 34th, her career best position was 23 (11 January 2016). So far, she has won 4 WTA and 13 ITF tournament in this genre.
The 34-year old Martínez-Sánchez is ranked 42nd, has a career best position of 4 (5 July 2010). So far she has won 17 WTA and 23 ITF event in doubles.
