“I’m very happy, amazing feeling to win this match! This is a good gift after My Birthday. I’m really terribly happy! It was a hard fight, especially after losing the first set. I think that before the game the most difficult thing was to forget, who’s on the other side of the net, forget it, I play against Venus Williams. I am very, very happy that I did it! I think that overall it was a very, very ancient fighting match. I am glad that in the end turned the match in my favor! It was a good feeling to play at one of the best court’s, at the Pietrangeli. I think this is a very good thing, it was a full house. Thanks for the support, thanks to the Hungarians, who were there and cheered for Me!!! It was an unbelievable feeling to play here! Now that’s it, two matches on Thursday. Bring more!”– Timi said.
The match lasted 2 hours 56 minutes.
Timi started superbly the 61-minute first set, but unfortunately in the end her opponent celebrated… The 23-year old Hungarian player led 4:1 with two breaks. She won her opponent’s service game to 30, then to 40. But Venus Williams came back. The 35-year old US-star break to 0 and to 40…
In the next few minutes, both players hold their serve, so came the tie-break. Timi led with a break 4-2 and 5-4. But, she lost her serve twice, and Williams won the opening act.
The 55-minute second act lacked any excitement. Timi again started well, led 3:0. But in the fifth game she lost her serve after 40-0, and Williams equalized to 3:3.
But, the Hungarian youngster fought hard and bravely. She saved her service game from a break point after 4:4. Then, few minutes later, at 6:5, she broke her opponent, she won the interesting second set.
The final set also brought a huge battle and lots of turns. Timi not served well, but fought with a great heart. The US-star three times led with a break, but the Hungarian youngster came back every time at 0:1, 1:3 and 3:4.
In the end, Timi played more accurately. After a great battle, she broke again at 5:4. At the match point, Venus Williams hit the forehand to the net.
