22/08/2016 – Timi’s once again is a member of the Top40! She may be seeded in singles for the first time at a Grand Slam tournament.
After winning five singles matches, two in the qualifying and then a further three triumphs on the main draw. In the third round of the Western & Southern Open at Cincinnati the 23-year old Hungarian player won in three sets against the World No11 Dominika Cibulkova. It’s the greatest victory for Timi in singles at the WTA Tour.
Thanks to the excellent appearance the Hungarian youngster moved forward eight places in the world rankings. She is now 33rd, she improved her CH for the fourth time this season. The current position may mean, that Timi will be seeded at the US Open, after the absence of the pregnant Victoria Azarenka. The Hungarian player was never among the 32 best players at a Grand Slam tournament.
“Of course I am very happy with the new Career High. I worked a lot, I work every day, to be better, Every day is a new challenge, I have my goals, I know what and why I have to do. Earlier this year I wanted to reach the top40, it was My target. Once this is achieved, I began to fight for a seeded position at a Grand Slam tournament. If all true, then today it is managed. In principle, I will be seeded at the US Open. I am happy that I am moving forward gradually! Of course there are always obstacles, but this is normal. The most important thing is the development. Our common motto with Thomas is: Discipline#Work#Patience:)” – said Timi.
Timi started the 2016 season at the 70th position. Her latest Career High was form 4 April, when she was 39th after the Miami Open.
The Hungarian youngster is ranked 19th at the WTA Race. In doubles she is ranked 11th, and at the Race she is 5th with Yaroslava Shvedova after the Western & Southern Open.
