2016: this was the season in doubles

06/11/2016 – The Hungarian player finished her year in doubles at the WTA Finals in Singapore.

 

At the end of the 2015 season, after the WTA Finals in Singapore the Hungarian player finished her cooperation with Kristina Mladenovic (France). Timi began this season with the Slovenian Katarina Srebotnik, but it was a short period. After the poor results they went to separate ways, and later the Hungarian player celebrated successes with Yaroslava Shvedova, and with Julia Goerges and Réka Jani.

FEBRUARY:

 

The month of the temporary solution. Timi started twice with Julia Goerges and with good results. The Hungarian-German pair reached the semifinal in Dubai, int he opening round they won against Barbora Strycova and the Formes No1, five time Grand Slam champion Roberta Vinci. Int he semifinal Timi and Goerges lost against Caroline Garcia and Kristina Mladenovic. In Doha, the Hungarian player and Goerges lost in the quarter-final.

MARCH-APRIL:

 

Az old-new partner and great successes at the most important hard court events at the USA. Timi and Yaroslava Shvedova won the 2013 Tashkent Open and they started well the cooperation. The Hungarian-Kazakh pair reached the semifinal at Indian Wells, where they lost after a great battle. Then came the Miami Open and the next good result.

 

Timi és Shvedova celebrated great victories and they reached the final, which was played in April. They lost against the two time Grand Slam champion, Bethanie Mattek-Sands and Lucie Safarova, who won later the 2016 US Open. But this tournament showed, Timi and Shvedova will be a good pair again.

MAY:

 

Three tournament: two quarter-final and the third round at the Roland Garros. Timi and Shvedova won one match each in Madrid and Rome. Unfortunately, they had little chance for a bigger success, they lost in two sets and the Spanish and Italian capital. The Roland Garros was also a dissapointing event, the Hungarian-Kazakh pair lost in three sets. They had a big chance for the victory…

JUNE-JULY:

 

At the beginning of June the Hungarian player lost int he opening round at Birmingham against Oksana Kalashnikova from Georgia. Then, Timi started again with Yaroslava Shvedova and they reached the semifinal at Eastbourne. They lost against the Chan Sisters in three sets.

 

End of June and the beginning of the new Wimbledon campaign! Timi played int he final in 2014 and reached the semifinal in 2015, both time with Kiki Mladenovic. This year, she played again the final, after great matches. Timi and Shvedova won easily int he first and second set, then played a close match against Johanna Konta and Maria Sanchez int he last 16. Then came a big success int he QF! Timi and Slava Svedova triumphed 6:2, 6:4 against the World No1 and title holder pair of Martina Hingis and Sania Mirza.

 

The semifinal was also easy against Raquel Atawo and Abigail Spears. Then the final was 6:3, 6:4 by Serena and Venus Williams. The US start won their 14th Grand Slam title together, they won all the finals in Ladies’ Doubles.

 

Then, later in July Timi lost int he opening round in Montreal with Lucie Safarova.

AUGUST:

 

After a long time, Timi again played with Réka Jani, with her friend. They reached the final after three good wins. Then, they lost 6:3, 6:1 againt the Kichenok Sisters, Lyudmila and Nadia. After that, Timi and Réka Jani lost int he opening round of the Rio Olympics, the opponent was from Romania, Andreea Mitu and Raluca Olaru.

 

At the second part of August, Timi again played with Shvedova. The Hungarian-Kazakh pair reached the quarter-final in Cincinnati and played in the semifinal at New Haven.

SEPTEMBER:

 

Two tournament, with a total of four victories. The US Open was a dissapointment, because Timi and Shvedova had a good draw. The won easily int he first and second round, and they began with a 6:0 in the third round. But after that, Asia Muhammad and Taylor Townsend won the next two sets, 6:4, 6:3…

 

In Wuhan, Timi and Shvedova finished int he quarter-final, against Sania Mirza and Barbora Strycova.

OCTOBER:

 

Three tournament, without a big success. Timi and Shvedova lost int he second round in Beijing, and the Hungarian youngster also won one match in Moscow, this time with Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova.

 

The last doubles event was again the WTA Finals in Singapore. Timi and Shvedova had three match point int he second set of the QF, but later the three time Grand Slam champs, Bethanie Mattek-Sands and Lucie Safarova has won 5:7, 7:6, 10-2.
